Several energetic youths of Ho defied intermittent rains on Saturday to attend the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards nominees jam at the Jubilee Park. Boasting of several up and coming local acts and mainstream acts with origins from the Volta Region, the VGMA jam was the talk of town, must-attend event in Ho.
The jams opened with a line-up of budding artists including Belce, Keeny Ice, Kula, Eye Judah, Nice, Hecta, Cano Z, and a host of others from Volta region before the nominated artists took to the stage. VGMA nominees Wisa and Atom opened the main set of performances with their hit songs ‘Ekiki Me’ and ‘Yewo Krom’ respectively.
Gospel singer, Patience Nyarko then set the stage up for a series of live band performances. Nominees in the special Unsung Artist category namely Nii Funny, Feli Nuna, Ebony, Perez Music, Wan O, Adomaa also got the opportunity to perform and appeal for votes for a chance to perform at the main Ghana Music Awards on May 7. Based on his exciting performance, Perez seemed favourite for most critics while the general public in Ho seemed to have fallen for Feli Nuna.
After the showcase from the Unsung Artists, it was back to more topnotch performances from the headlining acts such as S.P Sarpong, Jupitar, Bisa Kdei, EL, Edem. Another highlight of the show was a performance from Kwaw Kese who had earlier in the day performed his white wedding in Accra. He came on stage with his wedding custom supported by his batsman and hype man Kelvin Aggrey.
The Patch Bay band provided amazing support for all the artists who performed with live instrumentations while DJ Nii Ayi Tagoe provided fantastic party atmosphere with his eclectic and often pulsating selection of music.
