In his new book God, Guns, Grits and Gravy,
Mike Huckabee takes aim at music's power couple and -- should he decide
to run for office again -- just about assured he's losing his pop
culture votes.
The former Arkansas governor, 2008 presidential candidate and Fox News talk show host essentially states that he preferred the old Beyoncé and blames Jay Z for exploiting her up with all that sexuality, as U.S. News and World Report reports. In the book, Huckabee also likened the two's 2013 Grammy Award performance to watching "foreplay."
"My reaction: Why? Beyoncé is incredibly talented – gifted, in fact. She has an exceptional set of pipes and can actually sing. She is a terrific dancer – without the explicit moves best left for the privacy of her bedroom," he writes. "Jay-Z is a very shrewd businessman, but I wonder: Does it occur to him that he is arguably crossing the line from husband to pimp by exploiting his wife as a sex object?"
Huckabee here fails to acknowledge that Beyoncé manages her own career -- not her husband, Jay Z. So perhaps his frustrations are misplaced.
She said in 2013, following the massively successful surprise release of her statement-making self-titled album that kicked off her biggest year: "When I decided to manage myself it was important that I didn't go to some big management company. I felt like I wanted to follow the footsteps of Madonna and be a powerhouse and have my own empire and show other women when you get to this point in your career you don't have to go sign with someone else and share your money and your success -- you do it yourself."
