Yeah, while reading this article you might be thinking why the headline #BET being so racist !!! Congrats to stonebwoy for winning this year's most prestigious award for best international act but the point must be set straight with no fear or favour.
#BET INTL since it inception from 27 February, 2007 was to honor talents from both the UK and Africa for their hard work and dedication. But this is total stupidity and bullshit if you tend to award winners of such awards backstage rather than on the main program or stage. This act of presenting awards to best international act, Africa is really insulting and nothing to write home about as for all we know we are all blacks and the name for the award show is Black entertainment awards.
#BET always advocate for a stop to racism between blacks and whites in the world and are always crying foul whenever their rights are stumped upon by the whites. But at the end they tend to impose this racists acts on us from the other side of this continent.
For instance, on 2012 Sarkodie who is seen as an icon when it comes to music in Africa was belittled when he was presented his award backstage and i guess he was happy about it since he had no opinion or say on that act becaus he was just an up and coming artiste then.
Thought there might be a difference, in 2014 it was presented to Nigeria rap star Ice Prince 5hours before the main program and this year 2015, Stonebwoy #VGMA2015 artiste of the year also received his award the same way.
THE EXPOSURE:
BET always says this award will serve as exposure to African artistes, But where is the exposure when an award is presented backstage when no foreign artiste is even aware of the artiste that even won the category. At least when it is presented on stage the Jay-Z's , and other music gurus will be aware to notice these African artiste and who knows maybe they might get that awesome music deals and collabos.
ADVOCACY:
The award should be presented on the main show just as the other categories listed for the program but if they cant do that then we beg them to cancel the category since it just an insult to our integrity as Africans. Even the award was presented on stage atleast it should be during the main program but not before thats like really messed up #BET.
